Who we are

Sérénité Active ("the app," "we," "us") is operated by M Deats Wellness Limited, a company registered in New Zealand, based in Christchurch. We can be reached at mikaela@mdeatswellness.com.

This policy explains what personal information we collect through the Sérénité Active app and this website, why we collect it, how it is protected, and the choices you have. We comply with the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020. If you use the app from the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, the parts marked "EEA/UK users" describe your additional rights under the GDPR and UK GDPR.

What we collect, and why

We practise data minimisation: every item below exists because a feature cannot work without it.

Account information. Your email address and password (stored in hashed form), used to create and secure your account.

Profile inputs. Age, height, weight, and — only if you choose to provide it — body composition estimates such as body fat percentage or fat-free mass. These are the inputs to your calorie and macronutrient calculations.

Cycle information. The cycle dates and phase information you log, used solely to adjust your nutrition and training guidance. It is never used for advertising, never sold, and never shared except as described below.

Food and training logs. The meals, recipes, and workouts you record, including data you choose to sync from connected services such as Garmin.

Feedback inputs. Adjustments you make to your targets and responses about how you're feeling, used by the adaptive calculation features.

Technical information. Basic technical data needed to run a web application securely, such as IP addresses in server logs and authentication tokens. As a progressive web app, Sérénité Active also stores some data locally on your device so it can work smoothly (see "Local storage" below).

What we do not collect: your precise location, your contacts, or advertising identifiers. There are no ads in the app, and there never will be.

How we use your information

To run the app's core features — calculating and adapting your nutrition targets, tracking your logs, and providing cycle-aware guidance. To power the optional AI features described below. To secure your account and prevent misuse. To respond when you contact us. And to send you service emails about your account; marketing emails (such as waitlist and launch updates) are sent only if you signed up for them, and every one includes an unsubscribe link.

We do not use your personal information for advertising, we do not sell it, and we do not share it with data brokers.

The AI features, honestly

Some features — the AI coach, the recipe parser, and food photo scanning — are powered by a third-party AI provider, currently Google's Gemini API, used under Google's paid API terms, which do not permit Google to use your data to train its models. When you use one of these features, the relevant text or image is sent to that provider to generate your result. We send the minimum necessary. If you prefer not to use AI features, you can leave them unused — manual logging always works.

Who processes your data

We use a small number of service providers, each receiving only what its role requires: Vercel (USA), which hosts and delivers the application; Supabase, which stores your account and app data in a managed database; Google's Gemini API (USA), which processes the specific inputs you submit to AI features; Garmin, but only if you choose to connect your Garmin account, in which case we receive the activity data you authorise and you can disconnect at any time; and MailerLite (EU), which manages our email lists if you have subscribed.

Because some providers are located outside New Zealand, your information may be processed overseas. We choose established providers with strong security practices and contractual data-protection commitments consistent with the Privacy Act's requirements for overseas disclosure. EEA/UK users: transfers are made under appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses.

Local storage

Sérénité Active is a progressive web app. To work quickly and support offline use, it stores some data locally on your device using browser storage and caching. This data stays on your device and is removed if you clear your browser data for the site or delete your account.

Security

Your data is encrypted in transit and at rest with our hosting providers, and access to production data is restricted. No system can be guaranteed absolutely secure, but we treat cycle and health data with the sensitivity it deserves — and we collect little enough that there is less to protect in the first place.

How long we keep your information

We keep your information while your account is active. If you delete your account, your personal data is permanently deleted from our production systems within a short period, with encrypted backups expiring on a rolling basis. Waitlist and marketing emails are kept until you unsubscribe or ask to be removed.

Your rights and controls

You can view and correct most of your information directly in the app, request a copy or export of the personal information we hold, and delete your account and all associated data from inside the app — no email required. You can also email us to exercise any of these rights. Unsubscribe from marketing at any time via the link in any email.

EEA/UK users additionally have rights to restriction and objection of processing, data portability, and to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. Where we rely on consent — for example, optional body-composition data — you may withdraw it at any time.

To exercise any right, email mikaela@mdeatswellness.com. We respond within the timeframes required by law — generally 20 working days in New Zealand.

Children

Sérénité Active is designed for adults and is not directed at anyone under 16. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

Not medical advice

Sérénité Active provides nutrition and training information for general wellbeing. It is not a medical device and does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Always consult a qualified health professional about medical concerns.

Complaints

If you have a concern about how we've handled your information, contact us first — you'll get an answer from the founder. If you're not satisfied, you may complain to the Office of the New Zealand Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz. EEA/UK users may contact their local data protection authority.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes, we will notify you in the app or by email before they take effect, and update the date at the top of this page. We will never quietly change what we've promised about selling data or advertising — those commitments are permanent.
